Well then, what have we here? If ever a band should have been called Phoenix it is possibly this one. Born in and arising from the ashes of a cancelled gig at Bluefunk, Jim Kirkpatrick and Paul Rose got their heads together and dreamed up Guitar Heads. They completed the line up
with the recruiting of the stunning rhythm section comprising CHRIS CHILDS and HARRY JAMES from THUNDER.
The ensuing gig at Bluefunk was easily the best selling show of 2024 and arguably the best performance, though there were several others that ran it close.
This band is basically an historic tribute to the electric guitar, recreating some of the very best songs written and performed by some of the greatest rock and blues musicians in history, with the electric guitar at its heart.
With the project devised by Jim and Paul, two of the UK's finest Guitar slingers of today, it was never going to fall short of expectations. It was breath-taking. The audience refused to leave after the given encores and I had to go and find the band and talk them back out again for more.
The first time that has happened in 17 years.
I have no idea what the set list will comprise of this time there are approximately a million tunes to get through before these lads have to think of what might come next.
What I do know is that it will sell out again with ease.
The line-up this time will be augmented by the fifth musician who appeared on the superb album they released to accompany the first tour. It is of course the superb Nick Foley, Hammond player extraordinaire.
