Back in January Bluefunk kicked off its programme for 2023 with an explosive gig from the Band of Friends. Whilst the importance for most people there was the fact that the entire musical content was based on the oeuvre of Rory Gallagher, as played by currently the greatest exponents in the world.
What makes this band so good? I might suggest that whilst extraordinary individually, the sum of their parts, is so much greater than the whole.
Mr McAvoy chooses well and under his tutelage has gathered himself a fine Band.
Whilst a fine bass player himelf, his major skill would appear to be the selection of his musicians.
Messrs Rose and Kirkpatrick  are both incredible guitarists and whilst they consequently work together brilliantly in BoF, they are both renowned as individuals.
We know all about Jim K and his many world class projects but what of Mr Paul Rose?
Frankly his reputation in the business is jaw dropping and he has garnered plaudits and sponsors throughout his illustrious career. Read on.......
Winner of the Fender sponsored guitar competition selected by Rory Gallagher out of 1000 guitarists.

"A very hot player..." Rory Gallagher.
"Paul Blew my mind and I'm proud to know him..." Seymour Duncan.
"Quite possibly the best guitarist I've ever heard.." British Blues News
"Ingenious and staggering..." Guitar & Bass Magazine
"Truly Special, Exceptional..." Guitar Techniques magazine

Has worked as a producer/artist/session guitarist with Ted McKenna (drummer with The Sensational Alex Harvey Band, Rory Gallagher, Micheal Schenker, Bobby Womack) Gerry McAvoy (bassist with Rory Gallagher for 25 years). Randy Brecker (The Brecker Brothers) Bill Evans (tenor sax Miles Davis, Mick Jagger, Herbie Hancock, Derek Trucks), Mark Egan (Pat Metheny Group), John "Rabbit" Bundrick (Free, Bob Marley and the Wailers, Jon Martyn, Pete Townsend and 30 years with The Who).

This is merely the tip of a massive iceberg of credits. His extensive work In the USA is eyewatering. If you need more hit me up.
Those of you who were privileged enough to wish me happy birthday at at my Birthday Bash in December will have noticed that Mr Rose has enlisted the same Rhythm section as played for me as my anchor for the other artists to step up and strut with. That tells me he also has immaculate taste as well{:-)}
