THE PERFECT ANTIDOTE TO POST CHRISTMAS DOLDRUMS
Oli Brown first emerged on to the Brit blues scene as a contender more than a dozen years ago. He was instantly hailed as the 'next big thing'. As we have seen many times before this can be something of a poisoned chalice with many young prodigies falling by the wayside. Thankfully this was not the case with this young man.
Oli was quickly signed to Ruf Records (the highly influential German outfit) with a release in 2008, Open Road which delivered on his early promise.
Since then he has had many more releases and a golden period in which he picked up a plethora of British blues awards, - best male vocalist, best young artist, best album, best band etc. It was clear people were taking notice.
Oli's live performances have never been quiet introspective affairs. He is nothing if not dynamic, energetic and extremely exciting. This phenomenon has gathered legions of fans for his particular brand of the finest in blues rock particularly in a younger age group (the holy grail) although the old schoolers also adore his style of rocking the blues. He set the pace for the likes of Laurence Jones and Matt Long and many other young blades who have followed.
Following a 25 date tour of the UK as the opening act for John Mayall, when Rocky Athas was unable to attend the Indonesian Blues Festival in December 2011, Mayall asked Oli to step into the lead guitarist role of his band. John has never been behind the door when selecting sidemen, in fact you could say he has made a career out of it. You have to love John for giving the young 'uns a leg up.
After a sojourn into the rock world proper, when Oli formed a full on, 'in yer face' rock band called RavenEye (which incidentally was excellent) he now steps back into the blues world. He was never going to be too far away - far too good.
A new blues release from him is expected early 2020.
