MAT WALKLATE and TOM ATTAH

Sunday 9th September Bailey Room

We have become accustomed to seeing Mat playing alongside the wonderful Paolo Fuschi but we should not forget that he is known for a host of other collaborations as well.

Mat Walklate is a gifted and versatile musician. A 'name' in the worlds of traditional Irish music, world music, and also in this guise, Blues.

You could safely refer to him as 'Roots Royalty'. As a Harmonica player he has few peers with a feel and skill to die for. As Mike Harding of Radio 2 once said - "One of the best Harmonica players on the planet", and to be honest I wouldn't attempt to argue the point.

No slouch as a vocalist either, singing the blues with a level of authenticity rare in a white performer.

Other talents he possesses are an intelligent, dry, self-deprecating sense of humour and the unerring ability to pick top drawer collaborators.

Tom Attah is a strong and soulful performer of new and original acoustic blues material, based in the UK.

Combining the raw power of Son House with the dense hypnotic rhythms of Howlin’ Wolf and the barrel-chested roar of the old blues shouters, Tom’s live shows take audiences on a journey from the Delta to the Download with 21st century intensity.

Traditional and Transitional, Tom is the modern, living bluesman.  Taking the music from the past and carrying it into the future, Tom has stories to tell and songs to play.  This is dance music, this is strong music, and this is The Living Bluesman.

I have heard much about this extraordinary performer but have never yet seen him perform.

Apart from the reputation that precedes him I have implicit trust in Mat's choice of collaborators so this partnership excites me greatly.  If Mat is the dynamite this guy is the zippo.
