Alex Mckown Band

Alex is kind of special to Bluefunk. He could almost link his career progression to the timeline of BRBC. He was eleven years old when he first played for us and is now 23. I for one knew he was special that first time, a fresh faced kid who was obviously taking what he was doing very seriously indeed. I decided to keep an eye on him and invited him back to play periodically to check on his progress.

Each time was an eyeopener, his guitar skills progressed exponentially each time. A more dedicated and focussed youngster would be hard to imagine and by the time he was 15, the world was watching, and that year he received his first nomination in the British Blues Awards for Young Player of  the Year. He subsequently made the finals and he did so every year since, 2016 being the 6th year on the trot.

When Bluefunk returned to the Legion in March 2015, it was only fitting we should have Alex along to play the inaugural show, on the site of his first 'professional gig'.

He was great as always.
